This painting explores the unintended consequences of large-scale kcorporate initiatives through the metaphor of the lionfish — an invasive species known for rapidly overtaking reef ecosystems and disrupting the fragile balance of native marine life.
In corporate environments, “strategic initiatives” are frequently introduced as ambitious solutions intended to drive growth, innovation, or competitive advantage. Yet these initiatives can also consume immense organizational energy, redirect focus away from healthy existing systems, and create instability under the promise of progress.
The lionfish embodies this contradiction. Its elaborate beauty and commanding presence initially appear mesmerizing, even aspirational. Beneath the surface, however, its unchecked expansion alters the ecosystem around it, reducing diversity and weakening the natural structures that once allowed the reef to thrive.
Drawing from experiences within modern workplace culture, the painting reflects on how organizations often reward disruption without fully understanding the environments being disrupted.
